Training Seminar for Sudanese Election Officials

In 2005 the Sudanese Government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement signed the “Comprehensive Peace Agreement”. As a result elections will take place on all levels in early April 2010, followed by a referendum on the status of South Sudan in 2011. Therefore national and international training activities are underway for election officials.

The problem of the MLPC, regrettably, is that of the too numerous political parties in Africa: how make live durably the hope this party carries while the next elections risk to be, once again, manipulated and faked?

It is in this context and at the request of the MLPC that the Jean-Jaurès Foundation organizes since December, 2008 training courses to the local persons in charge of the party, to warn them of all the predictable pitfalls on the eve of the presidential and legislative elections of March, 2010.

Enhancing the Role of Civics and Intellectuals in Peace-Building and Reconciliation in Somalia

Somali professionals and leaders of civic groups, of diverse political backgrounds and resident both in Somalia and in the Diaspora, had played a major and constructive role during the reconciliation conference in 2002-04. Supported by HBF’s Regional Office for East & Horn of Africa in Nairobi, they formed the “National Civic Forum – Somalia” (NCF) in 2005.
